Ever wondered what it takes to be an entrepreneur?

The professional and personal challenges, the high and lows, the failures and the success?

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2014.

The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 200 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. At only 22, Corey has been in the Digital Design industry for more than 4 years. Over those years he's held 3 roles at various agencies and creative studios, started his own freelance company and has been heavily involved in the startup scene.

His passion lies in Web, Windows 8 and Windows Phone app design - having the CEO of Nokia, Stephen Elop, recently announce one of his apps [Panagraph] at their biggest launch yet in front of hundreds of thousands of viewers.

Mal is an online marketer. He has generated millions in sales using the internet and is prone to the odd viral marketing stunt.

At last year's inaugural SWPerth his pitch for a mash-up of a dating site and Groupon won him "silliest pitch". He joined Team Threadster and had secured them their first press and 1000 visitors before the weekend was out.

Jeremy Lu

Jeremy is a man who wears many hats.

As a co-founder of GroupMap, he has developed an online application which promotes collaboration and consensus building in large group settings, predominantly in education, work team meetings, conferences and corporate workshops.

As an educator, he teaches aspiring business leaders and entrepreneurs at Curtin University, using real case studies, interactive learning and interviews with Entrepreneurs in Perth.

Jeremy has received 6 faculty prizes for excellence in teaching and student evaluations, and has been a standout participant at two Startup Weekends to boot!

Sally Porter

Sally is Global Business Development Manager at local SaaS startup, Agworld.

Agworld develops cloud collaboration tools for the agricultural industry and Sally brings both agricultural and business expertise to the team. Sally holds a BSc in Agriculture (Hons) from UWA and has experience in international grain marketing, crop production and agribusiness. At Agworld she is involved in all aspects of product development and enterprise customer strategy in Australia and the US.

Darius Wey

Darius is the CIO at HealthEngine. He has extensive experience in computational and programming principles, systems, software engineering, graphic and Web design, and mobile computing. Prior to HealthEngine, he was a Software Engineer at IBM, and then went on to establish Codesparq, a development hub for all things mobile.

Darius has been recognised internationally as a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) for his contributions to the mobile industry.

Cyrus Eftos

Cyrus is a 23 year old Designer & Front end Dev, he's been in & out of the industry for nearly six years. He has experience working in Government, Agencies and Startups with previous jobs including Dept of Commerce & Pin Payments and is currently involved in local startup Liveability. He currently works at Juicebox Creative designing sites and apps in the Special Projects Dept.

Jay Whiting

Jay is a freelance web developer with a Bachelor of Awesome, working mainly on web applications. He has worked with a variety of startups over the past 3 years, and is heavily involved within the Perth startup scene.

At the last Startup Weekend, Jay was part of the winning team, iConnect Catering. Over the course of the weekend, he created a fully functioning prototype of a food-ordering application.

Ashley Aitken

Ashley is an academic, software developer, IT trainer and, most important of all, an entrepreneur who is currently working on his third startup.

He has trained software developers around the world - including for companies like Apple, IBM and HP -- and is a huge fan of the Lean Startup approach and Customer Development.

Ashley recently graduated from the Founder Institute and runs the Perth Starters group.
